Workforce Development & Training

The Workforce Investment Act Program (WIA) is a federally funded program that provides a variety of classroom and on-the-job training programs. The program serves adults, dislocated works and youth.  

To receive service from WADI you must live in Edwards, Wabash, Wayne or White counties. Other eligibility criteria may apply. 

 Eligible participants may receive:

  • Tuition payments for approved training programs
  • Book payments
  • Child Care
  • Travel Reimbursement
  • Purchase of uniforms and tools
  • Other services necessary for program participation

WIA In-School Youth Program

Serves income eligible youth who are enrolled in secondary school, need help with basic skills or score below 8.9 in ready and/or math assessment, and who have additional barriers to employment including but not limited to being a teen parent, an offender, a foster child or a youth with a documented disability.

WIA Out-Of-School Youth Program

Serves young people up to age 21 who are no longer attending a secondary educational facility and includes drop-outs or graduates who need additional assistance to obtain or retain employment. 

WIA Adult Program

Serves individuals 18 years old and up with on-the-job or classroom training in order to secure employment. Applicants must be willing to actively seek employment to participate in the program.   

WIA Dislocated Workers Program 

Serves individuals who have been laid-off from their jobs in order to obtain the training necessary to re-enter the job market. Classroom and on-the-job training are available. Services are available to “Displaced Homemakers” who have been unemployed and dependent on the income of another but are no longer supported by that income. In addition to spouses of dislocated workers, this can also income those affected by divorce or death of a working spouse.
