WADI's 2015 Family of Distiction for Edwards Cty

4/13/2015

EDWARDS COUNTY FAMILY OF DISTINCTION
Christopher Goodyear and his significant other came into WADI for LIHEAP, food and help with home repairs. The agency referred them to USDA for a home repair loan. WADI helped them with LIHEAP, CSBG Discretionary funds, food pantry, weatherization, ES Furnace, Warm Neighbors Cool Friends and EF & S Prevention services. Chris cared for his significant other through the Office of Rehabilitation Services. When his significant other passed away in 2012 he not only lost his job he also lost his best friend.  He struggled with depression after her passing that was a huge concern for many who knew him. Looking for work when you have limited income is always a challenge, but Chris kept putting in applications and making phone calls. He was even giving blood on a regular basis to put gas in his vehicle. He finally got hired at a factory, the position didn’t last long but he was able to receive unemployment to keep paying his bills while he looked for another job. He finally gained a position as a caregiver through Addus. It was a difficult long year for Chris but he made it. Male caregiver’s through home health agencies are not prevalent, especially in this rural area, but sometimes it has been to his advantage for more working hours. He has been with this employer since June 2013 and was voted “Employee of the Year” in September 2014 based on his award points. He is now over income for most of WADI’s services. Congratulations Chris!
