You are allowed by law to one free credit report per year by each of the three national credit reporting agencies: Experian, TransUnion and Equifax.  You may get it by going to

In order to keep an ongoing check on your credit report, you might consider requesting a report every four months with a different credit reporting agency.  Example:  In January you request one from Experian.  In May you request one from TransUnion and then in September you request one from Equifax.

Keep in mind that the free credit report will show everything on your report but will not give you a FICO score that is used to determine your credit worthiness.  All three credit reporting agencies will provide the FICO score but will charge you if you want that information, too.
