Tornado Hits Ridgway and Harrisburg

St Jo Catholic Church in Ridway
Two towns in our service area were hit with a tornado early this morning, February 29, 2012: Harrisburg (Saline Co) and Ridgway (Gallatin Co). Our WADI offices are open in Shawneetown and Harrisburg and power has been restored to our offices though the hard hit areas of Harrisburg have not and Ameren says it may be out for as long as a week.
Most roads into Harrisburg are closed. Police are assembling at Harrisburg high school. They will be going door to door to check on people. The Harrisburg Hospital is not allowing anyone in that is not injured. Family members must wait outside. The B wing has been severely damaged.
Walmart and the strip mall were hit by the tornado. The hospital is evacuating their patients to Evansville's Deaconess Hospital which has called in all available staff.
The First Baptist Church in Harrisburg is being used as a shelter. Red Cross stated they don't need volunteers now but are accepting names and phone numbers if they need to call people in.
Tickets are being issued to people on the road with no reason.
The Fire Department is asking for local volunteers with chainsaws to meet at the Rural King at 11am.
No one is being allowed into Ridgway. Historic St Jo Catholic Church was destroyed by a tornado along with the Gallatin County Tin Shoppe.
